Anet A8 3D Printer XYZ Calibration Cube and Some Other Test Files in "gcode" Format

Once you’ve build your Anet A8 printer and made the necessary calibration, I believe you wanted to print the famous 3D XYZ calibration test cube image just like everyone. But the result may dissatisfied you. Don’t worry. After the installation when first print comes out to the hotbed many noob 3D printer owners may face some quality problems.

At this point it is important to find out what is the major reason for not coming out of the expected quality and finding a workaround. Possible problem may be the calibration of your printer, or you may not be able to adjust the correct settings in your slicing software, or both. There may be different approaches, but my preferred method is to start from the 3D printer to solve the problem first.

For this purpose, lets use print-ready g-code files for Anet A8 and print it directly from the printer and monitor the quality. We will use famous 20mm XYZ calibration cube 3D image from The file you download here will be in STL file format. The required file format that your printer will process is g-code which is not yet sliced from this STL file. You need to create g-code file with Cura or Slic3r type slicing software with special settings for your printer using STL files. Here you can find the optimized ready to print g-code file of XYZ calibration cube for Anet A8. Download this file copy this to your SD card and print directly from the printer menu with the Print file option.

Here is my result. Maybe not perfect but looks good.

Well, I believe this small difference (0.1mm) may be ignored, but I’m going to look at it, though.

While printing this..

Well, if you are still not satisfied with the print quality you should first focus on your 3D printer calibration. Usually this can been done by performing some hotbed and extruder adjustments. Look at the Youtube howto videos on printer calibration.

If you get satisfied print out using those gcode files, now you can switch to your computer slicer software settings. If you are using Slic3r software you can directly import my XYZ calibration cube gcode file as setting (File>Import Setting from GCode file) and adapt those into your own settings.
